So what do you do with 3 days off... First of you spend 1 full day (which is from morning to late night) prepping all those minis for my GENCON classes... eurk... Than you spend 2 days to paint this little miniature which will be presented at GENCON independant painting contest:

This miniature from the latest Helldorado starting pack is a real delight to paint. It is petite, well details with really mice lines to paint. Compare to the blitz of GW minis I did the last few months it was really refreshing. So thanks to MIKH for this wonderful sculpt!

The coolmini link is here!

Bigger pictures:

The entire model was painted using these colors and mithril silver, boltgun metal and shinning gold:

So now I have to attack warcaster Kraye from the Cygnar Faction for the Privateer Press contest at GENCON!

Good day to all of you. Some clarification about yesterday's venting session.

I have noting against collectors buying miniatures from golden demon winners. In fact I love it and it is actually a big part of my revenu so... There is a major difference between a collector that buys miniature from a painter for his collection and one that commission a piece to enter it in a GD under his own name. It's like if I would commissionned Sam Flores, one of my favorite actual artist, for 5 paintings and then exposed them at a local gallery under my own name... I'm sure you can see the problem and difference.

So on these words I going back to finish my master of blades from Helldorado!!!

This has been making me mad for quite a long time now. Collectors that buy pieces for their collection, comes to a GD and enter the damn piece and walk away with the awards in their name. I could, to a certain extent, understand a newby that wouldn't know better and would be unable to read so he could check the rules, to enter a piece in the name of the painter... maybe... but when the collectors is fully aware of his actions and that the painter is also fully aware of the stupid plan well that just can't be.

GD rules are simple. You enter your own work in person. No one else can enter it for you, no one else can have help you in painting or converting or sculpting the piece. You are it's sole author and must be present at the event to enter the piece yourself.

Collectors: If you want a GD winning entry well you simply have to wait for the painter to enter it then for him to win and then you buy. Or you buy first and let him enter a comp before shipping. If your painter can't attend a GD well there is numerous painters out there that do it. If you want to own your own little resin statue well sit down at your work desk and start working and improving.

Painters: If you can't attend a GD yourself well too bad! If you want a Golden Demon make it happen by being present. If I can attend 4 Games Day this year, 2 being on the other side of the atlantic, on a small shop clerk salary well I guess anyone can manage the finance to attend one not too far from his place.

Frankly it is more than disappointing. Chicago was an awesome event but knowing that 3, not just one but 3 f-ing gold winning entries were actually entered by persons that knew they were going against the rules, that is simply sad.

I will not mention names, there's no point. I'll only say that the entries were Fantasy Large, Fantasy Single and Fantasy Unit. If you want more info well check on the coolmini forum... plenty more info there!

In the meantime keep painting on your own stuff!

The three last miniatures for the GENCON classes have been selected!!! They are all three from Maow Miniatures!

So for the Defining muscle class:

And for the 2 metallic classes I chose minis with not much metallic on them, but the swords, shields, helmet and shoulder pads will be enough within 2 hours and the participant will have other zone to work on once at home!

I have received the miniatures and I am really impressed by the quality of the detail and the casting! They should be a real delight to paint!

Well here it is finally! In all it's glory!!!

This officially my worst last minute model. I was no where near finished when I left for Chicago, spent most of my time painting before and after the pre-GD dinner with colleagues and friends to only finish it at 10h40 the morning of the GD at the Golden Demon lounge when the deadline was 11h00... An experience I rather not redo!

Otherwise I'm pretty please with the final results. Obviously I wish I could have put a little bit more work in it but eh!

Here are the links to coolmini:
Here and There!

The GD itself was a blast. I just love Chicago. The ambiance is great and since every single major painter on the continent seemed to come it was even better. The competition was fierce and the display really nice to look at.

The judgement was also quite interesting. This time they had a close section behind curtain so no one could actually spy on the results. You only knew the winners. No idea who had which colors. For the slayer sword selection they took every single winners behind curtain so again who knows who got the golds... So everything was a suspense until the end and frankly I never expected that slayer sword choice but after a good look well yeah now I agree. I had simply overlooked the model. So congrats on Jeffrey Harrison Bowden!

So now it is time to seriously think about GD UK! I had originally thought of doing a duel between a termi of khorne and space wolf. But I really want to paint a dreadnought and since I had no time to do it for Chicago so here we go. I had thought of using the chaplain dreadnought to make an Ultra Venerable dreadnought to finally convert it in a Tyranid War Veteran dreadnought. But looking into all the conversion I wanted to put into the model well I basically had the model of the Ultra Venerable Dreadnought... So i kept the base of the chaplain, cut and repositionned the legs of the ultra dreadnought, got rid of the banner and voilà!

I might also take the time to do this for the Privateer Press contest at GENCON:

So here we go! A lot of work once again on the table! But at least I am now in my own place, with my own set-up and schedule so plenty more time!!!

Well gold it is with the demon prince. Finally finished the demon itself at 10h40 this morning when the deadline was 11h. Pretty pleased by it. Obviously I would have loved to put 10 more hours in it but eh... more details tomorrow!
